چکیده

The aim of this work is the analysis of the signal composition observed in a single radar sweep during an underground investigation with an ultra-wide-band (UWB) radar. The electromagnetic (EM) response of a buried object, the radar pulse spectrum and the antenna set-up, all strongly influence the accuracy of the time of flight estimate. The analysis of the time domain signal will discuss the effects of the antenna coupling with the ground (first arrival pulse from air-soil interface) and the interference of overlapping pulses due to multiple interfaces and multiple reflections. The results of this analysis are based on simulations with parameters characteristic of an investigation of layered medium and signal processing schemes to extract information about soil and buried objects composition will be addressed. Analysis and Processing of Ultra Wide-Band SAR Imagery for Buried Landmine Detection - Antennas and Propagation, IEEE Transactions on

Experimental and theoretical results are presented for ultra wide-band (UWB) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) signatures of buried anti-tank and anti-personnel mines. Such are characterized by resonancelike peaks as well as valleys, across the 50–1200 MHz bandwidth considered. Consequently, frequency subbanding is used to highlight one target over another, of application to discriminating targets...

Design of a Compact Ultra-Wide Band Bow-Tie Slot Antenna System for the Evaluation of Structural Changes in Civil Engineering Works

Abstract—A compact UWB bowtie-slot antenna (36× 23 cm2) fed by a CPW transition is proposed for an improved ground-coupling radar. The antenna has an operating frequency band in the range [0.46; 4] GHz. Full-wave modeling using the FDTD approach has allowed to study in details the antenna radiation characteristics in air and in the presence of a soil. Afterwards, a radar system made of a pair o...

Localization and Place Recognition Using an Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) Radar

This paper presents an approach to mobile robot localization, place recognition and loop closure using a monostatic ultra-wide band (UWB) radar system. The UWB radar is a time-of-flight based range measurement sensor that transmits short pulses and receives reflected waves from objects in the environment. The resulting echo waveform is the sum of the reflected waves, and the delay of each compo...

Atmospheric and Fog Effects on Ultra-Wide Band Radar Operating at Extremely High Frequencies

The wide band at extremely high frequencies (EHF) above 30 GHz is applicable for high resolution directive radars, resolving the lack of free frequency bands within the lower part of the electromagnetic spectrum. Utilization of ultra-wideband signals in this EHF band is of interest, since it covers a relatively large spectrum, which is free of users, resulting in better resolution in both the l...

The Impact of Bandwidth on Through-the-wall Radar Imaging

An electromagnetic model is simulated using finite difference time domain for through-the-wall radar imaging. In the numerical simulation narrow-, wide-, and ultra-wide-band signals are used as emission sources. The back projection algorithm is applied to image square and rectangular ideal metal bodies based on a refraction model. The results demonstrate that there is obvious refraction in the ...
